Riding for the Seas
by Dave Caton, filmaker, teacher, rider and Sea Guardian

"We don't inherit the earth from our parents. We borrow it from our children" Anon

In April 2010 I will be taking a crew on an amazing 15 week adventure, travelling around the edge of Australia to raise funds for, and awareness of the Australian Marine Conservation Society's work around the country.

While we are on the road we will be filming Mondo Australis (an eight part travelogue). The journey will capture stories about Australia's oceans, the creatures that inhabit them, people fighting to preserve them, communities who depend on them and the rest of us who enjoy them.

I believe we all have a responsibility to do our part to protect our environment, whereever we live and play. It is crucial that we remember that the small changes we make as individuals have the potential to create huge changes in the collective impact we have on our environment.

On the road we will be travelling around the country off our own bat and listening to the people and communities who interact with the sea.

This is not about a one way conversation, a lecture or some negative expose attempting to apportion blame for the situation we are in. What we are putting together is an honest and productive approach to communication as Australians with a common goal; the preservation of our oceans.
